Graminoids accounted for 26.0% <br />mean cover, forts 0.4% mean cover, and woody plants 0.840 mean cover. <br />' Cryptogams provided 0.4% total cover. Litter accounted for 29.6% total cover and <br />bare ground 42.8%. Cover results for this treatment are listed in Table 7. <br />1 The dominant grass species were Bromus japonicas/tectorum at 12.440 mean cover <br /> (45.4% relative cover). Subdominant species included Agropyron cristatum at 5.6% <br /> mean cover (19.9% relative cover), Agropyron smithii with 3.29b mean cover and <br /> 12.140 relative wver, Agropyron trachycaulum at 2.4% mean cover (8.5 % relative <br /> cover), and ffilaria jamesii with 1.240 mean cover and Sporobolus anoides with 0.8% <br /> mean cover, each acwunting for 4.3% relative wver. Bromus japonicas/tectorum is a <br />' cwl season introduced annual, Spombolus airoides and Flilaria jamesii are warm <br /> season perennial natives, and the remaining subdominant grasses aze perennial wol- <br /> season natives. <br />' The single fort species enwuntered was the annual Bassia sier>'rsiana (Ironweed) at <br /> 0.490 mean wver (1.4% relative cover). The above species is an annual introduced <br />i <br />h <br />ti <br />f di <br />t <br />i <br />t <br />b <br />d <br /> ur <br />spec <br />es c <br />arac <br />er <br />s <br />c o <br />s <br />e <br />areas. <br />' Woody plants were represented in wver sampling by Atrip/ex conlertifolia (Shadscale <br />Saltbush) and Sarcobatus rrrmiculatus (Greasewood) at 0.4% mean wver and 1.4% <br />relative wver each. Both are long-lived natives characteristic of dry azeas in the west. <br />Herbaceous Production <br />' Total herbaceous production on this treatment plot was 78.26 glm2 (696.5 ]blac). <br />Agropyron smithii dominated herbaceous production in this treatment with 27.56 g/mz <br />or 35.2% of total production. Agropyron cristatum and Sporobolus airoides acwunted <br />' for 18.82 g/mz and 12.46 g/m2 respectively. In total, perennial grasses account for <br />80.4% of total production. Bromus japonicas/tectorum with 15.12 g/m2 or 19.34% of <br />' total production was next in dominance. Four annual forts produced 0.2g/mz for a <br />small 0.39b of the herbaceous production.
