1
1
The single woody plant represented in cover sampling was Chrysothamnus nauseosus
(Rubber Rabbitbrush) at 0.8% mean cover and 6.2% relative cover. Chrysothamnus
nauseosus is a rapid native invader of disturbed areas in the west.
' Herbaceous Production
' Total herbaceous production on this treatment plot was 29.36 g/m2 (261.3 lb/ac).
Bromus japonicas/tectorum dominated the herbaceous production at 16.0 g/m2 or
54.5% of total production, while the perennial grasses Hilaria jamesu and Agropyron
smithii accounted for 1.56 g/m2 (5.3°Jo) of the total production. Nine annual forbs
' produced 11.8g/mz for 40.2% of the herbaceous production. Herbaceous production
results for this treatment are found in Table 4.
W
Pl
D
i
d Di
i
d
ant
ens
ty an
mens
oo
y
ons
' Thirty-two woody plants were counted on this plot for a density of 465/acre. Three
species were present with Chrysothamnus nauseosus dominating. The largest woody
plant was a Chrysothamnus nauseosus individual measuring 77 cm high and 101 cm in
diameter. Woody Plant information is presented in Tables 29 and 30 for all Test Plots
and the North and South Areas.
' Species Diversity
Five lifeforms were represented on this treatment. They included four perennial
grasses, one annual grass, three annual forbs, one woody plant, and one cryptogam.
Of these, four perennial grasses, one annual grass, three annual forbs, and one woody
' plant represented species with greater than three percent relative cover. Species
diversity information for all Test Plots, North and South Areas, and the Shadscale
Shrubland Reference Area is presented in Table 31.

3.2.2 Test Plot 1: 12"
'
Cover
' Total vegetation cover for this treatment was 26.0%. Graminoids accounted for
24.0°!0, annual forbs for 1.6% and woody plants 0.430. Cryptogams provided 1.2%
' total wver. Litter accounted for 26.0% total cover, rock 0.4%, and bare ground
46.4%. Cover results for this treatment are listed in Table 5.

30
