• 1997 Annual hydrologic Report
Page 6
elevations in these piezometers. Table G97-3 was prepared to show statistics on these
water levels corresponding to high and low flows in the adjacent river. UTL-01, -02 and
-03 water levels were higher than the average for the site. UTL-04 showed a lower
than normal water levels except the July measurement which was above average.
These averages may not be a true representation of the statistics for the sites due to
the sharp change in water level measurements before and after the end of 1986 when
monitoring personnel changed. Data page GD-12 contains the result of full suite water
analysis done on UTL-02 and 04 during the Year. Diagrams G97-11 and 12 are
trilinear representations of these water analysis. The circles' size on the Trilinear
diagrams indicate a relative amount of TDS, the larger the circle the higher the TDS.
Both sites showed about a 5°l° increase in TDS concentration this Year.
A former mine dewatering hole located at the North Decline area of the mine is now
being used to monitor the water level in the abandoned portions of the Roadside South
Portal. It is monitored primarily to keep it within a 10' zone between the bottom of the
siphon for outfall 002 and the reclaimed Northwest Intake Portal. The results of
monitoring are included in the Mine Water section, Table M97-3.
In order to characterize the Rollins Sandstone two surface and two underground wells
were installed during June 1997. The surface wells were installed at the north decline
and the unit train loadout. The underground wells were installed in the North and
South Portals. Depth to water ranged from 56.5 feet below grade in the North Decline
well to artesian in the North Portal well. Monitoring of these wells will continue in
accordance with permit requirements. Depth to water data is presented on data page
GE-1. Quality information is presented on pages GE-2 through GE-5.
The Rollins Sandstone wells are numbered Rollins 1, 2, 3 & 4 on data page GE-1.
Rollins-1 is an underground well located in the North Portal and is under artesian
conditions. Rollins-2 is located at the unit train loadout. Rollins-3 is located at the
north decline. Rollins-4 is an underground well located in the South Portal.
I~
