• 1997 Annual Hydrologic Report
Page 5
i •
•
The Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) tests were continued this Year. This testing was
added to our CDPS permit requirements because of the classification of the receiving
waters. The acute test involves subjecting fathead minnows to various dilutions of
effluent in receiving water for 4 days and subjecting Ceriodaphnia dubia to various
dilutions for 2 days. The tests look primarily at mortality during the test period. Data
pages SL-3 and SM-3 include summaries of the percent survival at the individual
effluent dilution ratios for the Year. Discharge from ouffall 001 and 002 are combined
proportional to the total discharge for the previous month to form one sample. The
survival rates for all samples taken this Year were in compliance with the discharge
permit requirements.
Ground Water
The ground water monitoring points on Cottonwood and Rapid Creeks were monitored
twice during the Year. Results of the monitoring are listed on data page GA-2.
Diagrams G97-1 thru 6 show a graphical representation of the water level elevation in
these wells since monitoring began in 1984. Table G97-1 was prepared to show
average water levels in the spring, corresponding to high water level in the adjacent
creeks and in the fall or near low water levels. Measured water level in GWMS-01A
and B were lower in the spring and fall than normal, in GWMS-02A was below normal,
GWMS-02B was normal to higher and GWMS-03A and B were higher than normal.
Piezometers CRDA-01 thru 06 at the Cameo Refuse Disposal Areas (CRDA) No. 1 and
No.2 continued to be monitored quarterly. Data page GC-5 includes measurements for
this Year. A graphical representation of the water level elevations in CRDA-01 is
shown on Diagram G97-13. Water levels increased slightly this Year. Table G97-2
was prepared to show statistical information on the CRDA piezometers since installed.
Multiple listings for a site represent time frames for which the top of the pile was at
different elevations. Separate listings also occur to indicate dry and problem readings.
Most of the original CRDA-# piezometers and the PZ-# piezometers showed only slight
variation during the Year.
The results of water level measurements at the unit train loadout this Year are listed on
Data page GB-1. Diagrams G97-7 thru 12 are graphical representations of water level
