• There has not been a significant continued drop in the water levels in the past five years since
the wells were drilled.
The water level in SC-1 has been in the range from 6011 feet to 6028 feet. The water
level in SC-2 has been in the range from 6051 feet to 6081 feet. The water level in SC-3 has
been in the range from 6069 feet to 6088 feet.
Two new groundwater wells TC-1 and TC-2 aze currently under construction. The
wells should be completed in February of 1997. TC-1 and TC-2 will be monitored quarterly
in March, June, September, and December for field parameters. The full suite of groundwater
parameters will be analyzed in June and December.
Station WSC DH12, a methane degassification drill hole for the Hawk's Nest Mine, is
monitored annually in June for field parameters and full suite of groundwater parameters. On
17 June 1996 a bailer was lowered down the WSC DH12 well. There was just enough water
removed form the well to conduct field measurement. The results aze included in section
4.6.1. The depth to the water was approxmently 1400 feet. The depth and location of the
well makes it extremely difficult to get an accurate measurement. Sanborn Creek Mine
fabricated a new piece of equipment that could be lowered 1500 feet to measure to depth of
the well. On 23 July 1996 a cable was lowed down the well to check the water level, but
because of the weight of the cable an accurate measurement was not obtained. The well
appeared to be dry and no water sample was taken. Sanborn Creek Mine is in the process of
• building a power bailer that will make sampling the well easier. The purpose of monitoring
WSC DH12 is to determine the water level in the E-Seam workings of the Hawk's Nest Mine.
This is the orily remaining drill hole open into the Hawk's Nest Mine from the surface
following reclamation activities by the Division. Other drill hole sites were inspected with
Division personnel in June 1994 to determine if any were usable for SMC monitoring
activities. None of the open drill holes were down-dip from WSC DH12, so the Division
reportedly reclaimed all other drill holes.
