PRODUCTION <br />(Table 2) <br />An average of 2,822.9 pounds per acre was measured as standing crop biomass this area in <br />2003. Alfalfa accounted for 526.4 pounds per acre, while all other species composed the <br />remainder. <br />WOODY PLANT DENSITY <br />(Table 3) <br />Native shrubs comprised all woody plants counted in 1987-1969 Reclamation in 2003. An <br />average of 113.3 stems per acre were wunted, composed predominantly of big sagebrush and <br />including mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius) and Saskatoon serviceberry <br />(Amelanchier alnifolia). <br />1996 Reclaimed Area <br />(Photographs 5-6) <br />• COVER <br />(Table 4) <br />Dominating the vegetation in this area in 2003 were several introduced annual and biennial forbs. <br />The lifeform accounted for 65.7 percent of total vegetation cover, over 9/10ths of which is <br />attributable to yellow sweetclover (Melilotus officinalis). The quantitative balance was composed <br />of oakleaf goosefoot (Chenopodium glaucum) and hound's tongue. Native perennial cool season <br />grasses occupied 17.6 percent of total vegefation cover. Several species were observed in <br />relative abundance in this lifeform -mountain brome (Ceratochloa carinata, 5.16%), slender <br />wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus, 4.23%), thickspike wheatgrass (Elymus lanceolatus fm. <br />dasystachya, 3.76%), and western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smifhii, 3.76%). Several other <br />lifeforms were also quantitatively present in this area, with total vegetation cover of less than 10 <br />percent. These lifeforms include introduced perennial cool season grasses, native perennial <br />forbs, native shrubs, introduced perennial forbs, native annual and biennial forbs, and introduced <br />annual grasses. <br />• <br />
