Soil Balance
• Seneca submitted the final soil balance as Technical Revision No. 31 on June 26, 1997 as the final reclamation -
topsoil management plan for Seneca II. Subsequently, the CDMG approved this final topsoil management plan on
December 9, 1997. Hence, no soil balance will be submitted with any further Annual Reclamation Report.
Soil Salvage Storase and Replacement
Soil salvage (disturbance) areas and soil stockpiles sites as of December 31, 2001 aze shown in the 1995 Annual
Reclamation Report, Exhibit 9-3a. Topsoil stockpile volume information is presented in Table 00.2. Approximately
54.5 acre-feet of soil remained in stockpiles as of December 31, 2001.
Soil Redistribution Thickness Undated
SCC will follow the final reclamation -topsoil management plan approved'in TR-31 for the remainder of the
Seneca II Mine life since it covers all of the remaining disturbed lands which need to be topsoiled.
REVEGETATION
• Seedin¢ and Shrub PlantinE
Permanent revegetation activities in 2001 included planting and seeding of shrubs as described below, and drill
seeding with permanent Seed Mix #1 at a rate of approximately 1 S Ib. per acre (see Table 00.2).
A total of 6,600 shrub seedlings were planted in one concentrated planting area in 2001. Table 00.4 shows
approximate acreages, species composition, and the total numbers planted by species. All plant materials were one-
year-old containerized nursery stock developed from bitterbrush, chokecherry, gambel oak, serviceberry, snowberry,
woods rose and box elder seed collected from environments similar to the Seneca II mine site. Narrowleaf
cottonwood and willow were planted near existing stock ponds. The cottonwood and willow were grown from
cuttings taken from mature plants located within a 5 mile radius of Seneca II Mine.
The seedlings were grown and planted by Bittettoot Native Growers, Inc. (BNG) of Hamilton, Montana. Tree Guard
browse repellent was placed on all planted seedlings. All seedlings were treated with a mycorrhizal fungi inoculum
• that was developed at the BNG nursery. Plantings were completed in late September 2001 in reclaimed sites that
3
