1
San Luie Project Ptuue U Raise I Expansion -Final Conattuction Report
' S.5 Liner
1
1

1
t
1

1
5.5.1 Phase I to II Liner Tie-In
In order to create a continuous liner sub-base layer/clay liner layer beneath the g¢omembrane at the
Phase I to Phase IItie-in, the Phase I liner was cut at the anchor trench and laid back. The liner
within the anchor trench was then removed and Phase II sub-base was placed dh'rectly adjacent to
the Phase Isub-base with no intervening synthetic liner. Detail of this tie-in configuration is
depicted on Drawing 14719-103.
5.5.2 Pipeline Underliner
In order to preclude the possibility that erosion of the liner cover layer beneath the tailings
distribution and water return pipelines could result in the pipeline(s) resting directly on the 40-mil.
VLDPE liner, a piece of 60-mil. HDPE liner was placed on top of the VLDPE liner beneath the
pipelines and liner cover layer. A full 22 ft wide roll width piece of HDPE liner was utilized. This
protective liner was not welded to the primary VLDPE liner.
5.5.3 Conformance Samples
' BMRI elected to sample the geosynthetic liner for third-party conformance testing to verify that the
material properties conform to the specifications of the liner required to be provided by the
' manufacturer. A 3 ft z 5 ft sample was collected from every 100,000 ft' of liner delivered. These
samples were sent to Precision Laboratories of Qrange, California for testing. The results of this
testing are contained in AppendIZ D.1.
' 5.5.4 Downstream Solution Collection Ditches
Where the 40-mil, VLDPE liner was exposed in the solution collection ditches on the downstream
' side of both abutments of the raise, a piece of fi0-mil. HDPE liner was welded to the VLDPE
liner. The HDPE liner is secured beneath the tce of the fill and in the anchor trench along with the
VLDPE liner. The HDPE liner was added to provide additional protection to the VLDPE liner in
' this azea.
aY 10 Jett o.
1
