--
Other spi.ciee @ncountered on Gold Hi 11 were,Rubber rabbitbrusli,
Fondler Ground cherry, and Milkweed.
This information could be used in a study of plant progression
in the mining region.
GILIESPIE HILL
The 1979 reclaimation on Gillesie Hill is appearing 'successful.
Alot of the seedlings are showing new growth and good health.
The drip irrigation system was used weekly in mid-summer
to increase their chance::6f::survival.
DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR ZINC HILL
The 1500 gallon water tank on Zinc Hill could provide the
evapo-transpiration needs of the 211 seedlings planted on
section 3 this summer. A drip system similar to the one on
Gillespie Hill would be effective.
Before attempting to set up such a system the water tank
and separators should be rinsed and flushed thoughly.
This will remove moss which will clog the emmitter lines.
The drip system itself would begin with a 112 inch line
running from the tank directly down to the separators.
Leaving the separators you would need 150 feet of 3~4 inch
main line running vertically down the middle of section 3.
Along this vertical main line you should place 75 foot
1~2 inch lateral lines. These laterals should be alternatly
placed every 30 inches along the main line and remain a
standard length to equalize the pressure throughout the
system.
On the end of each of the laterals ahd.~he,ma}n.bine,.
should:be::placed a drain plug for flushing purposes.
A 3~8 inch emmiter line should then run from these
laterals to each and every seedling. A few inches of
slack should be left in the emmiter lines. This will
allow for expansion and contraction due to temperature
changes.
The average flow rate of .718 gallons hour for this
type of system would allow 7 gallons of water per seedling
over a 11 hour period. Providing the system was completely
filled.
I think a deep though w2teiigg like this once or twice a
week will give Letter results then a more frequent shallow
watering.,
6
