SURVEY OF THE 1979 GOLD HILL RECLAIMATION
In~the summer of 1979 approximately 1.7 acres of the Gold
Hill area was reforested in the reclaimation efforts.
This summer I determined the following survival rates by
canvassing the area.
S cies # Alanted # alive survival
Mondale Pine 200 0
Pinion Pine 50 18 36;0
Ponderosa Pine 100 37 37~
Common Winterfat 50 4
Prairie Sagewort 50 5 2G`~
Fringed Sagebrush 50 16 32,E
Mountain Mahogany 50 2 [,~
Gambel Oak 50 4
Mountain Snowberry 50 6 12~
Indian ricegrass 50 30 6c~
Skunkbush Sumac 100 12 12~
Fourwing Saltbush 100 31 31°,~
Rubber Rabbitbrush 6 0
I think the low percentages may have been to the lack of
water available to these seedlings at the time of planting.
This summers watering system seemed to work well. Hopefully
the 1980 planting will have better results.
Even with the low survival rates the ground cover had
stabilized the area against erosion.
On 7~1k~80 I sampled 3t, Quadrants to determine the
percentage of each speices on Gold Hill. I sampled the
area Systematically choosing random quadrant with a 20 inch
radius. After 3t, samples a species curve indicated sufficient
data to base these results.
Wild Oats
Mustard
Russian Thistle
Stickleaf
Indian ricegrass
Sagewort
Squirreltail
Needlegrass
Fourwing Saltbush
Bush sunflower
Spiderwort
Prickly Poppy
Daisy
Hymenopappus
Stickseed
Joepie weed
Mulliem
Mountain Snowberry
Gambel Oak
Lamb's Quarter
Yucca

43~
23~
;1~°,~
3~
if
1°,b
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
~*
*
*
*
( * ~ indicates less then 1~,
-. 5
