SOIL TESTS
As a result of soil test made July 17, 1980 I find the .
compost used in 1979 to be extremely rich in N-P-K.
I also found some avalible nitrogen and abundent phosphorous
and Pottasium in the overburden used on section 3-
Compost material
Nitrate
P:Phosphorous
Pottasium
pH
Overburden
Nitrate
Phosphorous
Pot.tasium
pH
Organic matter
150+ pounds per acre
200+ pounds per acre
1000 pounds per acre
7.2 slightly alkaline
'.~0 pounds per acre
200+ pounds per acre
1000 pounds per acre
7.2 slightly alkaline
3 • ~%
In the future I would suggest the use of 75/ overburden
and 25~ compost for a planting medium where possible.
REC OhII~fENDATI0N5
In my planting I had about 400 seedlings to the acre. This
seems to be a little Higher then necessa~yiff~;good results are
obtained. Although I see this density being of no harm I
think possibly half this may be necessary once successful
planting techniques are exstablished,
This may call for the elimination of species that proved
unsuccessful or species that are moving into the area by
themselves.
The root Geller is a very good storage facility for the
incoming seedling. An improvement though at the time of
watering may be to seperate the plants that need more
water (Pinus's) from some of the less tolerable plants (Sage).
In conclusion of the 1980 reclaimation efforts I feel that
my techniques used this summer will show improved results if
a watering maintainence program is used during future dry
periods.
I wish to express my .appreciation to Ken Klco for his strong
efforts toward the reclaimation needed at the Coaldale Quarry.
DeWayne Myers
7
