• <br />Section 2 <br />This section has a north-northeast aspect. Its surface <br />has more soil build-up then the other sections do. This <br />is due too the length of time since mining disturbance. <br />In 1972 this section of Zinc Hi11 was planted to <br />Ponderosa Pine and Junipers. Because of poor contouring <br />and maintenance it had to be recontoured to accept <br />additional seedlings. <br />This section was reforested before the application of the <br />seed mix. The seed was broadcast in early September at a <br />rate of 16.6#~acre or 20# over the 1.2 acre s•-ction. The <br />fertilizer was left off till spring; <br />The seedlings planted in section 2 this summer were: <br />Mondale Pine <br />Ponderosa Pine <br />Blue Spruce <br />Pinion Pine <br />Fourwing Saltbush <br />Aspen <br />Mountain Mahogany <br />Oakbush Sumac <br />Woods Rose <br />Oregon Grape <br />Rubber Rabbitbrush <br />Fringed Sage <br />Indian ricegrass <br />60 <br />11 on the lower half <br />40 <br />15 above the road <br />15 above the road <br />32 <br />56 <br />6 <br />37 <br />12 <br />26 <br />36 <br />12 <br />total 358 <br />Section 3&4 <br />These two sections both have an eastern aspect. Their •: <br />surface was covered with the overburden leading into a <br />rock outcropping. <br />Application of the seed and fertilizer were broadcast in <br />late June. 15# of the seed mix was placed on this .93 acre <br />section. followed by 30# of each the nitrogen .arid_phosphorous <br />fertilizers. <br />As in section 1 a thin layer of straw mulch was pack- <br />tracked into the seeded surface. <br />Throughout the summer. section 3 aas reforested while r . <br />section q was left for future planting. <br />Section 3 planting included: <br />Mondale Pine 64 <br />Ponderosa Pine 19 <br />Aspen 32 <br />Gambel Oak 15 <br />Mountain Mahogany 19 <br />Oakbush Sumac 19 <br />Oregon Grape 17 <br />Rubber Rabbitbrush 13 <br />Fringed Sage _~ <br /> total 211 <br />3 <br />
