-3-
Piezometers
The inspection report recommends continued observations at the 360-level
piezometer and, if there is no decline in water level replacement of the
piezometer. Observations have continued and no substantial decline has been
measured. Thus the peizometer may be plugged or the casing disturbed. It
appears that HMC may have to replace this piezometer in 1985. We will continue
to analyze the water level data to confirm the need for replacement.
Dumb Records
The inspection report recommends weekly reports to be kept to record the
daily inspections of dump status. These reports are being maintained.
Pit Access Road Slide
No recommendations for near-term implementations were made in the
inspection report.
The majority of the recommendations involve regrading of the rock dumps in
access where erosion along the working dump faces has occurred. Though the
sediment contro]s in place at the sedimentation pond have kept any effects of
this erosion within acceptable limits, Homestake has maintained its maintenance
program to minimize erosion of the dumps. At the current stage of operations,
the maintenance is often combined with the revegetation activities.
If our report elicits questions, please tali. You and Dr. Pendleton may
wish to meet with me to ensure we have adequately explained our activities.
Best wishes for the Holidays and thanks for your time and effort.
Sin~er~ely, ~
n E.
