_ analysis. The program is capable of analyzing stability
conditions for circular and randomly specified shear surfaces.
1 _
Six sections were evaluated to determine appropriate design
I conditions. The first three sections were utilized to evaluate
general design alternatives. These included the following basic
- conditions:
' o Excavated foundation at toe of bench.
o Underground coal waste constructed at a slope of 25 degrees
from the toe of the slope to within 4 feet of the top of the
slope.
_ o Berm constructed on lower portions of bench fill.
' o Four-foot depth of recompacted fill material placed over
coal waste.
o Rock fill at toe area.
The conditions which were varied for the alternatives included
' the type of material utilized in the foundation toe area and
within the berm, and the height and width of the berm. The types
. of material evaluated included select sands and gravels, coal
waste and recompacted bench fill and colluvium. Results of these
evaluations are presented in Figures 6 and 7, Section CC
alternatives 1, 2 and 3. Based on the evaluation and on economic
considerations, the alternative 3 was selected for further
. evaluation. This alternative included:
o Excavated and recompacted foundation area at the toe of the
17
