4.0 Stability Analysis
J ~ 4.I INTRODUCTION
The stability evaluations for the Blue Ribbon Mine bench project
J were based on several aspects, including:
o slope stability under long-term steady-state conditions;
o effective stcess type analysis and model development;
o various slope and subsurface conditions expected;
o drain requirements;
o subsurface groundwater conditions.
I - Variations in the model were analyzed to determine the
1 sensitivity of the variations in conditions encountered.
' 4.2 MODEL DEVELOPMENT
The model development for the mine bench was based on conditions
observed during the field investigations, aerial topographic
information, subsurface conditions encountered during field
investigations, and on results of previous investigations
. conducted by Rocky Mountain Geotechnical. Several models of
I - various conditions encountered were prepared to evaluate the
slope stability conditions and to generate design requirements
I for later preparation of construction drawing and specifications.
I 4.3 ANALYSIS
I Factors of safety against failures for assumed conditions, which
were developed through the model preparation, were determined
' ~ utilizing a computer-assisted Limit Equilibrium Method of Slices.
This particular program (SSTAB II) utilizes Spencer's method of
~__
16
