• mine in the vicinity of Pond 006 and on cut slopes along road A (see areas identified as
Hydroseed on Exhibit 91.3). These areas totaled approximately 7.5 acres. Permanent Seed
Mix No. 1 (Volume 13, Tab 22, Permit C-82-057) uas hydroseeded at the broadcast rate for
this seed mix. The seed uas mixed in a water slurry containing virgin wood fibre and
fertilizer. The hydroseed slurry contained virgin wood fibre at an approximate
rate of 500 pounds per acre and fertilizer at a rate of 200 pounds per acre of diammonium
phosphate (18-46-0). The sites were then hydromu lched at a rate of 1500 pounds per acre
virgin wood fibre with 200 pounds per acre of an organic psyllium based tacking agent.
A portion of the cut slope adjacent to Road A between topsoil Stockpile I and J, totaling
7.8 acres, was revegetated ui [h Permanent Seed Mix No. 1. where equipment operations
allowed, the seed mix was drill seeded at the specified rate using a modified rangeland
drill equipped with depth bands. Steep areas, where equipment access uas restricted,
were hand broadcast seeded at the specified broadcast rate for the mix.
Tuo small permanently reclaimed areas totaling 2.9 acres were drill seeded ui th Permanent
Seed Mix No. 1 at the specifietl rate . The reclaimed sites, shown on Exhibit 91.3, are
located near the southern end of
i [h
i
t
h
at at
rate of 15 the active
d pits. These areas were also cover cropped
w
w
n
er w
e
a poun s per acre.
Temporary revegetation was completed on cut and fill slopes along the tie-across haul
road. The cut and fill slopes had previously been seeded, however establishment of
perennial vegetation was only partially successful. In late summer 1991, a survey was
made of the cut and fill slopes to determine the extent of areas requiring reseeding and
species which were performing well under adverse site conditions. The resulting
temporary seed mix presented in Table 91.3 was hydroseeded at the broadcast rate
specified for the seed mix. The seed was mixed in a water slurry containing virgin wood
fibre and for some areas, 18-46-D fertilizer. In some cases, the 18-46.0 fertilizer was
broadcast at a rate of 200 pounds per acre on the site prior to hydroseeding. In
addition to seed, the slurry included virgin wood fibre at a rate of 500 pounds per acre
and the 18-46-0 fertilizer, where required, at a rate of 200 pounds per acre. The sites
were then hydromulch ed at a rate of 1500 pounds per acre virgin uo od fibre with 200
pounds per acre of an organic psyllium based tacking agent. Approximately 6 acres were
revegetated on [he ti e-across haul road.
.,
. There were no straw mulching operations conducted at the Seneca 11-w mine in 1991.
6
