1 <br />' Clearing, grubbing, and stripping shall extend 20-ft beyond the embankment and synthetic liner <br />I' limits. Clearing, grubbing, and stripping limits shall extend five-ft beyond diversion structures, <br />access roads, and other facilities. <br />t The vegetative and topsoil materials removed during clearing, grubbing, and stripping shall be <br />removed and disposed in topsoil stockpile areas as shown on the Drawings or directed by the <br />' Owner. Topsoil stockpiles shall be located adjacent to the final disposal area lirhits. Side slopes <br />of topsoil stockpiles shall be no steeper than 2H:1 V. Topsoil stockpiles shall ibe stabilized by <br />seeding with a quick growing cover crop such as western wheatgrass. <br />4.2 Monitoring Wells <br />' Monitoring wells outside of the tailings impoundment area shall be protected and maintained in <br />good operating condition throughout construction. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for <br />the protection of existing monitoring wells designated for protection. Prior to construction start- <br />up, the Contractor shall familiarize himself with monitoring well locations and clearly mark each <br />well, as needed, to prevent accidental damage. In no case shall damage to the monitoring wells <br />be permitted; and if such damage does occur, all repairs or replacement, if required, shall be <br />at the expense of the Contractor. <br />1 <br />5.0 EXCAVATION <br />5.1 General <br />5.1.1 ScoQg of Work <br />The excavations to be performed include, but are not limited to, stripping and grubbing, removal <br />of topsoil, shaping, and required excavations in structure foundation areas, embankments, access <br />' roads, and borrow areas. <br />The Contractor shall be solely responsible for determining the excavation potential of soil and <br />' rock materials, water table conditions, and other pertinent subsurface information. Borehole, test <br />pit, and geologic information as shown on the Drawings and additional information on site <br />conditions is available to the Contractor. Actual conditions may vary from the information <br />' shown. The Contractor shall satisfy himself with additional subsurface information, if he so <br />desires and at his own expense, for bidding purposes. <br />1 <br />1 9 <br /> <br />
