section. For the sake of brevity, the SY-S2Y- prefix that precedes all surface water cite
• names will often be dropped throughout this report. Aa en example, Site SY-S2Y-FG1 will
be referred to as Site FG1.
Surface Yater Site SY-S2Y-FG2. This site is located on Yatering Trough Gulch and is
located upstream of mining. This site was dropped from the monitoring program in October,
1993.
Surface Yater Site SY-S2Y-SG7. this site is located on Nubberson Gulch upstresm of the
confluence of mine discharges contained in 006 Gulch. Its purpose ie to provide
undisturbed water quel ity date. Monitoring here began in April, 1987. Review of its
hydrog raph shows typical seasonal va ri etion due to anowpack runoff in the epring. Samples
et this site diepley a MgCa-NC03504 type water with en average TDS vslue of 652
mg/l for 1994. This vslue is lower then the baseline average o} 697 mg/l but fells within
the baseline range of 620 to 76B mg/l.
NPDES 006. This site is located on a tributary to Nubberson Gulch referred to es the 606
Gulch. Construction of the 006 Pond wss completed October, 1989. This pond collects ell
• mine discharges from the south mining area. Site SG6 was located at this site prior to
the construction of the 006 Pond and, therefore, water quslity dste from Site SG6 will be
used for the baseline conditions at this site. Samples from NPDES 006 display s MgCs-504
type water with an average TDS value of 989 mg/l in 1994. This value is lower than the
baseline average of Site SGb (1,969 mB/l) but falls within the baseline range. This
decrease of TDS values 1s the result of the impoundment of low TDS snowmelt runoff.
Review of the flow hydrographs indicate typical seasonsl vsrlation due to snowmelt runoff
in the spring. The first hydrogreph eupplled shows data for 1994, the second shows ell
data collected since the site began discharging.
The yearly average flow (from weekly messurements) since this pond began to discharge ere:
1994 0.010 cfs
1993 0.127 cfs
1992 0.036 cfs
1991 0.062 cfs
1990 0.055 cfs (pond did not completely fill until March 29, 1990).
•
9
