All bedrock aquifers affected by mining have been determined to <br />have trensmiseivities less then 1 ft2/day, which would also preclude their use for <br />yielding sufficient water for irrigation, or even livestock. <br />Ground Yater quality Summary. The limited amount of mining that has occurred at this mine <br />(mining began in 1990) has had no effect on ground water quality during the 1994 water <br />year. TDS increases above baseline ranges can be attributed to natural conditions (Yell <br />15Y). Average TDS values in 1994 were less then the baseline range for Yells 6A2, 140V, <br />170Y, and 1BOV. <br />Surface Yater <br />At Seneca II-Y, all stream sites are monitored monthly (excluding December to March) for <br />flow and field parameters. Samples obtained et these sites ere analyzed for the surface <br />water parameter list, Table 10 (Appendix A) during April, June, end September. Eight <br />springs ere monitored at Seneca II-Y. They are monitored for flow, field parameters, • <br />and the surface water parameter list semiannually (once in April-June, then again in <br />September-November). A summery of surface water monitoring sites and sampling frequencies <br />is presented in Table 11 (Appendix A). <br />AlL surface water data is found in Appendix E. Discharge monitoring reports. for NPDES <br />005, 006 and 009 can be fourwi in Appendix F. Dsts for each site begins with a flow <br />hydrograph of all historic data (plus sn annual hydrograph for MPDES cites), followed by a <br />statistical summary of water quality data for the current water year, and then a listing <br />of individual water quality and quantity data for the current water year. Percent <br />milliequivelent values ere presented in Tabl ea 12 and 73 (Appendix A). All date prior to <br />1990 has been averaged together to provide the baseline (i.e., premining) conditions that <br />existed. In addition, the range of total dissolved solids (TDS) that existed prior to <br />mining is also given. Since mining began in 1990, that data end all subsequent data are <br />listed separately. The following discussion of water quslity will limit itself to s <br />description of major tons. A separate section, Comparison of Surface Veter quslity to <br />4ater Use Standards, will list those samples that exceed water use elands rds.
