January 31,1985
Mr. David C. Shelton
Page 2
Summary of Reclamation Completed 1978-1984
197a
The firs[ year, our reclamation plan consisted of first, sloping the
east and south sides of our pit. This was done with a D-9 dozer. Imme-
diately following, a scraper deposited over-burden, which was removed from
the. dragline excavation area along the east and south banks. The dozer
was again used to push the topsoil down and over the sloped banks.
In addition to using topsoil on banks, the excess was hauled by scraper
to fill in an old pit north of office, which was termed "fill in area" in
our mining and reclamation plan.
Approximately two to three months after topsoil had been placed on
banks, numerous types of vegetation started to appear and take hold.
At the present, there are native willow trees, sunflowers, natural
wheats and grains, wild grasses, alfalfa plants, sweet clover, wild flowers,
and many other numerous plants and shrubs growing along the. banks.
Also that same year, we stocked approximately two hundred to four hundred
rainbow trout, two to four inches long. By the fall of that same year,
some of them had grown to five or six inches long.
Total affected land for 1978 amounted to between five and six acres.
Total reclaimed land for 1978 amounted to between two and three acres.
19 79
The second year our mining plan consisted of removing overburden on
approximately one acre of land along the north bank of the pit, and then
making two swaths with the dragline, excavating pitrun gravel to a depth of
about 15 feet.
Reclamation consisted of taking [h e. over-burden to the old pit [hat we
are reclaiming north of our office. Also a chain link fence was installed
along [he north side of this fill-area.
Total amount affected land was two acres. Total amount of reclaimed
acreage was less than one acre.
19 so
Our mining plan again consisted of removino approximately one acre of
topsoil along the north bank of the pit. 4!e went back in with the dragline
and made two more swaths excavating to a depth of 15 feet. Total affected
land was one acre.
Reclamation consisted of sloping another 100 feet of bank along the east
side of pit. This continued the sloping from the previous two years in a
northerly direction. After sloping, topsoil was spread approximately six
inches deep on this area.
Excess topsoil was again hauled by scraper to fill in area by office.
Total reclaimed acreage for the year was less than one acre.
