• January 31, 1985
Mr. David C. Shelton
Page 3
1981
Mining plan consisted of removing approximately one-half acre of topsoil
along a portion of the west side of the pit.
IJe then used the dragline to excavate a large area that was sticking out
into the pit which had been left from the initial excavation of the pit. This
souared up the entire western edge of the pit, making it ready for future
sloping and reclamation.
We also moved over to the north side of the pit later on in the year and
made another swath along the northern edge of the pit. Total affected land
was approximately one acre.
Reclamation for 1981 included taking over-burden from the west side of
the pit and spreading it in a low marshy area next to the southwest corner of
the pit.
Additionally, we sloped another 100 feet of bank on the southwestern side
of pit and covered it with topsoil.
Sometime in the future, we are planning on leveling, plowing and planting
alfalfa in the filled-in area next to the southwest corner of the pit. Future
plans also include installing a pivot sprinkling system in this area to water
the alfalfa growing around the pit area.
Total reclaimed acreage was less than one-half acre.
19 82
Mining plan included changing our method of extracting gravel from using
a dragline, to dredging, and if that didn't prove successful, resume dragline
operations.
Most of the dredging operation turned out to be experimental and not much
production was achieved. We did however, find out that this material can be
pumped or dredoed, and that in 1983 some additional changes will hopefully let
us be successful.
Because we were getting behind in production, we had to strip over-burden
off of a small portion of land in the norhtwast corner of pit, and had to
resume excavation with the dragline. Total affected land was less than one
acre.
Reclamation included
west corner of the pit by
of the pit along the main
taking the. over-burden off
scraper and hauling it to
road for filling.
the land near the north-
another low area northeast
t98?
Mining plan included again using a dredge as our means for extracting
pitrun gravel from pit. We installed a hydraulic digger on end of suction line
on the gravel pump which was more successful than the year before, but still
we did not get the production we had hoped for. This process did not affect
any additional land.
Reclamation consisted of a minimal amount of bank sloping on west side of
pi[. We also drilled a well for the installation of a pivot sprinkler, but
could not afford to go ahead with complete installation.
