4.1.3 Lab 13aeration /Sanitation
1994 was a year of fine tuning the lab and operator process controls regarding our USP ~~
product. An auto-titrator vvas put in use, which greatly reduced the time needed to assay
our dry product and various liquor samples. The pursuit of an accurate, objective chloride
test led us to try several methods; a chloridometer being chosen as a good alternative
to the currently used silver/chromium titration method, and as a side benefit, production
of hazardous waste will be virtually eliminated.
l'(te laser particle analyzer was used more extensively to aid with the research of growth
•t.
~ ,t ,
edification of the bicarb crystals. Also, a new technique has been developed for a more
accurate screen sizing of our USP #3 product.
The lab was also used for several crucial process control tests pertormed by the plant
Y
operators. Chloride levels were measured on the run-of-mine product twice per shift and
~, patch tests were run once per shift to measure the insolubles. The operators will also
~,
benefit from the chloridometer for their in-process testing by early 1995.
~'
~'
was much improved over the past year. Pgsts were controlled with the use
,...
UV bug lights, rodent traps placed around the inside perimeter, an ultrasonic
~repeller in the warehouse.
