• reclamation. Stability was also analyzed with respect to geotechnical
factors and to potential flooding from Ralston Creek, Recommendations
for interim measures to assist in long-term stability are provided.
A report describing the analyses and recommendations was prepared,
and assistance in preparing the waste pile stability portions of the
amendment application was provided to Cotter Corporation staff. Final
designs and construction drawings of facilities to protect the waste
piles from potentially damaging Ralston Creek flood flows Nill be pre-
pared, if necessary, after approvals of the permit application are ob-
tained.
2.2 Scope of Work
The scope of work necessary to accomplish the objective described
above was separated into two parts. The first part describes the geotechni-
cal services required to determine the waste pile stability, both under
. existing and long-term conditions. The second part describes the hy-
drologic and hydraulic services to determine flood flow rates and stream-
bed geomorphology as they may affect the waste piles. The two investi-
gations have been integrated as discussed in items 11 and 12 for design of
protective facilities and report preparation.
2.2.1 Slope Stability Evaluation
1. Evaluation of General Stability of the Area - "fhe site was
visited and inspected by an experienced engineering geologist. During the
inspection, a geotechnical map was prepared at a scale of 1" - 200'. The
map shows the extent of alluvial deposits, bedrock outcrops and colluvial
soils. Attention was paid to any potential instability features such as
old or recent landslides, unstable areas, areas of potential rockfall and
other geologic hazards.
•
-2-
