' Banks and Gesso, LLC
Current data indicates two small areas with soils exceeding this standard.
The contamination exists from one to four feet below ground surface and
' the volume is estimated at less than ten tons. This data is subject to
revision pendinct the results of additional testing.
' Soils containing toxaphene concentrations equal to or less than 40 mg/kg
but greater than 0.40 mg/kg will be considered as solid waste and will be
disposed of on-site, in the gravel mine, as part of reclamation backfill.
' These soils will be placed above the ground water level. Solid waste
generated at a mine site and disposed of at that mine site can be
permitted by the DMG without a Certificate of Designation. (CD) This is
allowed pursuant to a Memorandum of Agreement between the DMG and
CDPHE and by the fact that a landowner is allowed to dispose of their own
solid waste on their own property (same property) without a CD under the
Colorado Solid Waste Disposal Sites and Facilities Act.
' Soils containing toxaphene concentrations of 0.40 mg/kg or less require
no special handling.
' 5.2 Map of Areas to Be Remediated
Figure 2 is a map of areas to be remediated based on available data.
' Also shown is the proposed storage and staging area.
5.3 Sampling Program
1
The floor and walls of the excavated area will be sampled and analyzed
for organochlorine pesticides (EPA Method 8081 A). The Sample
' intervals shall be: as follows:
Floor of excavation - 1 sample per 50-feetz
' Walls of excavation - 1 sample per 10 lineal feet (each wall)
The sampling methodology shall be the same as described in Appendix 3.
'
Sampling will continue in the excavated area until the unrestricted use
standard (i.e. 0.40 mg/kg or less) is met. Soils within the solid waste
' range of contaminant concentrations will be removed and hauled for on-
site in-pit placement.
' 5.4 Schedule of Remediation
' ASCI proposes to start the remedial work immediately upon receiving all
necessary permits to use the property as planned. The remedial work
shall be completed no later than five years from that date.
