• x =sample mean
Confidence limits for comparisons to reference areas were calculated using the formula for
Post-mining Comparisons on page 17 of CMLRB (1988), using an estimated t-value of 1.65.
Confidence limits for areas not being compared to a reference area (i.e. shrub density), were
calculated as 1.65 standard errors of the mean, i.e.:
s
conf. interval = 1.65
Climatic Data
Jn
Precipitation data from the Seneca II Mine for the period of January 1982 through July 1992
were provided by Peabody. Since the long-term average for the mine exists for only 10 years,
the long term average monthly precipitation data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) for the nearby town of Hayden was used as an appropriate base for
• comparison. Information on degree-days was also derived from the NOAA records at Hayden.
RESULTS
Data from the 1992 revegetation monitoring studies at the Seneca II Mine are presented in
tables 1 through 45 contained in Appendix 1. The list of plant species observed during these
studies in the reclaimed and reference areas are included in Table 46 in Appendix 2. Seed mixes
applied on areas revegetated prior to 1981 and in years 1981 through 1990 are included for
reference in Appendix 3. Photographs of representative locations within the reclaimed areas
sampled in 1992, as well as photographs of the Mountain Brush and Sagebrush reference areas
are included in Appendix 4. Graphic depiction of summaries of vegetation data, precipitation,
and total degree days are presented in Figures 1-10 of this report, starting on page 26.
Cover
• ~
