3.2.2 1986 RECLAMATION AREAS
• The 1986 reclamation azea encompasses approximately 47 acres of reclaimed pit in the
central azea of the Keenesburg Mine pemut azea. The 1986 reclamation azea is composed
of three pazcels (Areas 4, 12, and 20) sepazated by north-south haul road corridors (Areas
3 and 19). The area is neazly flat with a gemle slope (<1°) to the north and east.
Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1986. Replaced
soils were sandy in texture. Area 12 was mowed in the fall of 2003 to reduce litter
buildup, incorporate the litter imo the soil surface for moisture retention, and reduce
Artemisia filifolia numbers.
Cool season graminoids dominated the 1986 reclamation azeas this season. Andropogon
hallii and Bouteloua gracilis were present and appeared to be in healthy condition, though
not as dominam as in years with June and July precipitation. Widely scattered individuals
of Yucca glauca (yucca) were encountered. Area 4 has two distinct vegetation types.
The topographically elevated azea at the north end of the parcel is dominated by
Calamovilfa longifolia, Andropogon hallii and Schizachyrium scoparium (little
bluestem). In the lower area, at the south end of this pazcel, Bromus marginatus
dominates, with contributions by the warm season grasses Panicum virgafum
(switchgrass), Schizachyrium scopm~ium, and Andropogon hallii. Very few weedy
species were observed. Total vegetation cover was estimated at 55-60 percent. Total
herbaceous production was estimated at 200 g/mZ (1780 lb/ac). No evidence of pests or
diseases was identified in any of the 1986 reclamation azea pazcels.
• 3.2.3 1987 RECLAMATION AREAS
The 1987 reclamation area encompasses approximately 48 acres of reclaimed pit and
adjacent areas in the south cemral area of the Keenesburg Mu-e permit area The 1987
reclamation azea is composed of two parcels (Areas 11 and 17) separated by a north-south
haul road wrridor and two narrow reclamation parcels (Areas 9, 10, and 16). The ernire
1987 reclamation area is neazly flat with a gemle slope (<1°) to the south and east.
Reclamation and subsequent revegetation within this area took place in 1987. Replaced
soils were generally sandy in texture. Area 11 was mowed in the autumn of 2003 to
reduce standing litter and inclusions ofArtemisiafilifolia.
The 1987 reclamation areas were dominated by cool season wheatgrasses and SNpa
viridula. An area immediately adjacem to the undisturbed range on the south is
significantly drier and contains Yucca glauca. Vegetation cover was estimated at 55
percent. Overall herbaceous production in this area was estimated to be 150.175 g/mZ
(1340-15601b/ac). No evidence of pests or diseases was identified in this area.
3.2.4 2000 RECLAMATION AREAS
Two former haul road corridors were seeded to the permanent seed mix in 2000, the
comdor (Area 19) between Areas 11-13 and 20 and 22, and the corridor (Area 6)
• southeast and east of the 1987 east pazcel. Growth this year in these azeas was variable.
CooroEnergyCompary Paga 15
2003 Revegetation Monitoring Report
