In several locations within both areas, significant perennial graminoid growth was present,
particularly Bouteloua gractlis and Panicum virgatum. In areas bordering native range,
• annuals (Kochia scoparia and Bromus tectorum) dominated. As noted last season,
Kochia scoparia serves as a cover crop and moisture holder (particulazly snow) for
perennial graminoids, providing shade and desiccation protection for developing perennial
graminoids. Total vegetation cover was estimated at 40 percent.
3.2.5 2002 RECLAMATION AREA
In 2002, a 0.66 acre azea east of the southern segment of B Pit was seeded to the
perennial seed mix. This area bounds the active haul road to B Pit and reclaimed and
revegetated azeas. Initial observations revealed typical annual growth during the first
season with small perennial Bass sprouts below.
3.3 COMPARISON OF RECLAII~IED AND REFERENCE AREAS
Monitoring of the revegetated areas allows for the identification of vegetation community
development trends during the extended liability period. This evaluation also assists in
decisions regarding yearly grazing, husbandry practices, interseeding, fertilizing, and weed
management. Comparison of the reclaimed area values for vegetation cover, herbaceous
production, and species composition with the values from the reference azea or standazd,
indicates whether revegetation has been successfirl, or whether additional measures need
to be initiated to enhance vegetation community development. The tables below allow the
• comparison of the parameter values with the standazd to be achieved, either from the
reference area in the case of vegetation cover and herbaceous production, or the
established standard for species wmposition.
Total Vegetation Cover (2003)
Reference 1995 Ree. 1997 Rea i99g A~ 1999 Ree.
Xpu 55.80 39.00 43.60 40,67 27.60
5 7.69 7.96 7.99 15.16 6.69
N 10 10 10 6 5
Nmin 6 14 11 47 20
Total Herbaceous Production (2003)
Refereace 1995 Rea 1997 Rec. 1998 Areas 1999 Ra,
~ar 130,21 148.99 163.05 148.51 142,08
5 31.53 54.9? 53.91 55,36 90.45
N 15 15 15 9 5
Nmin 18 42 34 43 126
CooroEnergyCompary Page 16
2003 Revegetatbn Monitoring Report
