comributed the least to annual herbaceous production in this azea this yeaz (0.08 g/mz or
• <1 ib/ac). Biennial forts did not contribute to total herbaceous production this season.
3.1.5.3 Species Composition
Cover sampling idemified two lifeforms and 11 species within the 1999 reclamation aeeas.
The lifefonns included six species of perennial graminoids, one armual grass, one perennial
fort, and three annual forts. Of the species encountered on the 1999 reclamation areas,
seven were native and four were introduced. Perermial species outnumbered annual
species by seven to four. Cool season species were more prevalent than wazm season
species (7 to 4 species) this yeaz in the 1999 reclamation aeeas. Warm season graminoid
species accounted for three species and cool season species included four species. Three
fort species were identified as cool season and one was warm season.
The 1999 reclamation areas had six species contributing greater than three percent relative
cover this yeaz. These species included Kochia scoparta (30.12%), Calamovilfa
Iongijolia (18.07%), Ambrosia psilostachya (13.25%), Helianthus aromas (12.05%),
Bromus tectorum (9.64%), and Agropyro» smithii (8.43%).
3.2 QUALITATPYE EVALUATION:
1985,1986,1987, 2000 AND 2002 RECLAMATION AREAS
3.2.1 1985 RECLAMATION AREAS
The 1985 reclamation areas encompass appro~amately 23 acres of reclaimed pit in the
north central area of the Keenesburg Mme permit area. The 1985 reclamation area is
composed of two pazcels (Areas 13 and 22) separated by a north-south haul road corridor
(Area 19). This azea is nearly gat with a gentle slope (<2°) to the north and east.
Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1985. Replaced
soils were sandy in texture. The revegetation seed mix differed slightly in composition and
representation of cool season grasses from the seed mix applied to the 1986 and 1987
reclaimed areas, yielding a slightly different species composition.
Area 13 was mowed in the autumn of 2003 to reduce standing dead litter. Observations
of the parcels during sampling and at the end of the growing season indicated significant
growth this season, particularly in the cool season graminoid wmponent. Several fort
species were observed. Plants appeared healthy in the 1985 reclamation areas, with good
whn and root vigor. Total mean vegetation cover was estimated between 50 and 55
percent throughout both Areas 13 and 22. Herbaceous production of this area was
estimated at 150.200 g/mZ (1340.1780 Ib/ac). There was no evidence of invasion by
unwanted species or evidence of pest or disease problems.
r~
\_J
CooreEnergyCompary Page 14
2A08 Revegetatbn Monkoring Report
