nearly Bat with a gentle slope (<1°) to the north and east. Area 9 slopes slightly (4%) to
• the north. Reclamation and wincidem revegetation within this area took place in 1999.
Replaced soils were sandy in texture. Specific sampling information for the 1999
reclamation areas is contained in Tables 10 and 11.
3,1.5.1 Vegetation Cover
Overall vegetation cover within the 1999 reclamation azeas was roughly evenly divided
between forts and graminoids. Three annual and one perennial fort combined to accoum
for nearly 60% of relative cover. Two perennial graminoid species wntnbuted
significantly to vegetation cover in the 1999 reclamation areas. Bromus tectorum also
contributed significantly to cover this year.
Total mean vegetation cover of the 1999 reclamation azeas was 27.60 percent. Forts
provided 17.60 percem mean cover (57.83% relative cover), while graminoids accounted
for 10.00 percent mean rover (42.17 % relative rover). Total weer values within and
between the parcels within the 1999 reclamation varied from a tow of 18 percent total
vegetation rover to a high of 34 percent vegetation rover. The highest and lowest levels
of total vegetation rover were found in Area 9. No one species was enwuntered in both
parcels and all transacts. Bromus tectorum and Calcmrovilfa longifolia were found in both
pazcels and in 60 and 80 percem of the transacts, respectively. Kochia scoparia and
Helianthus amrerus were enwuntered in all transacts of Area 9, and in 80 percent of all
transacts.
. Overall within the 1999 reclamation areas, Kochia scoptvia was dominant, with
contributions of 9.20 percent mean and 30.12% relative rover. Five additional species
wntributed significantly to rover, including Calamovilfa longifolia with 2.80 percent
mean (18.07% relative), Ambrosia psilostachya wntributing 4.00 percent mean total
(13.25% relative), Helianthus animus providing 3.60 percent mean (12.05% relative),
Bromus tectorum with 3.20 percem mean rover (9.64% relative cover), and Agrop}ron
smithii with 2.00 and 8.43 percent mean and relative cover, respectively.
Vegetative litter (prior years growth, dead wood, and other biologic organic material)
wmprised 21.60 percent ground rover overall within the 1999 reclamation areas. Baze
soil wmprised 50.80 percent of the ground rover. No rock or cryptogams were
encountered during the rover sampling in the 1999 reclamation areas.
3,1.5.2 Herbaceous Production
Overall total herbaceous production within the 1999 reclamation azeas was 142.08 g/mz
(1266 ]b/ac). Perennial grasses wntributed the most to herbaceous production, 88.72
g/mz (791 Ib/ac), accounting for 62.4 percem of total herbaceous production. Perennial
forts wntributed the sewnd highest productions with 29.84 g/m2 (2661b/ac), which was
21.0 percent of the total mean herbaceous production. Annual forts wntributed 23.44
g/m2 (209 lb/ac) or 16.5 percent of total herbaceous production.
