- "Monogram Mines Permit M-1978-222 UG" sites. These sites are shown in
order to clarify which sites are covered under which permit in this area.
- "Areas Reclaimed -Operator Diligence". In the course of conducting final
reclamation work on the Anna May mine site and other affected sites in the
area, the Operator voluntarily closed a number of hazardous openings and
reseeded several disturbed areas, as shown on the 1"=100' map.
During the July 2002 site inspection by the Division, the inspector noted the following
final reclamation items that needed to be completed under Permit M-1977-293:
- the Anna May decline needs to be securely and permanently closed;
- the Anna May dump, which will be used for fill material, will need to be
reclaimed, and:
- trash and debris scattered about the general vicinity needs to be cleaned up.
The Operator completed all of the listed tasks in October 2002. The Anna May decline
timber was broken out to ensure the decline would stabilize after backfilling. Local
dump material was used to cover the decline trench. The general site and dumps have
quite successfully naturally revegetated; during final site reclamation work, the native
vegetation was protected as much as possible.
No native topsoil has been salvaged from any of the old mine sites. The Operator used
existing plant-bearing surficial material for final cover. In addition, as part of Operator
Diligence efforts, a nearby powder magazine site (see 1"=100' map) was removed as a
source of final cover material for the various historical sites that were reclaimed. This
borrow area was a mound of soil and near-surface fine material that had been graded by
past operators to provide a secure location for an explosives magazine. Although no
topsoil has been salvaged anywhere in the general area during historical operations, this
mound of fine, weathered material will be a suitable substitute. After work was
completed, the borrow site was graded, furrowed, and seeded.
Following completion of all reclamation and maintenance work, equipment access routes
were scarifted to loosen wheel compaction and then seeded. All disturbed areas were
seeded by hand broadcasting with the seed mix described above for the Blackburn Mine
site.
Wilson Mine•
The Wilson Mine site was reclaimed by a previous operator. The site was inspected by
the Division in July 2002 and final reclamation was deemed acceptable. The Operator
has applied for bond release, and the Division has released the Wilson site and modified
the Operator's bond accordingly.
Last Chance Vent:
This site caused considerable confusion, not only as to its location, but also to determine
what disturbance was actually included under the Permit.
