WEST ELK COAL COMPANY, INC. <br />MINE ACCESS ROAD RETAINING WALL / WATERLINE RELOCATION <br />1.0 Scope of Project - The work consists of constructing a <br />soldier pile retaining wall and appurtenant structures, <br />relocating an 8 inch steel waterline, and relocating a 2 <br />inch waterline at the West Elk Coal Company, Inc., Mt. <br />Gunnison No. 1 Mine near Somerset, Colorado. The retaining <br />wall will be approximately 112 feet long and 20 feet high <br />and consist of 8 inch wide flange beams on 8 foot centers <br />drilled and cemented 10 feet into bedrock. A drain system <br />located behind the face of the retaining wall will dewater <br />the fill. The 8 inch raw waterline and 2 inch fresh <br />waterline will be relocated behind the retaining wall. The <br />portions of the waterlines include concrete anchor blocks, <br />a manhole and applicable tie-ins to both ends. <br />2.0 Project Organization and Responsibilities - West Elk <br />engineering personnel will maintain project control and <br />provide general oversight. The contractors will be <br />responsible for supervising specific portions of the <br />project assigned to them. West Elk will be responsible for <br />procurement of materials listed in Exhibits A ~ B. The <br />contractor will be responsible for providing the necessary <br />labor, equipment and tools, and supervision to complete the <br />project. The contractor will provide a timetable and <br />schedule for each phase of the project assigned to him. <br />
