C~
8. Semiannual water quality measurement at nine wells.
In addition, monitoring data on stream flow and water quality are
obtained from the USGS Gaging Station on the North Fork near
Somerset. Additional spot monitoring was conducted to facilitate
assessment of hydrologic impacts.
I.1 Surface Water Monitoring
Several separate drainage systems have their headwaters on
or flow through the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine coal lease
area. All of the streams draining the area are tributaries
• to the North Fork. Sylvester Gulch, Gribble Gulch, and Lone
Pine Gulch are ephemeral streams draining the northern
portion of the coal lease area including the permit area as
shown on Exhibit I. Minnesota Creek and its tributaries
drain the southern portion of the coal lease area. The
overall drainage exhibits a dendritic drainage pattern with
the streams originating in the highlands and dropping
steeply to the river.
Minnesota and Beaver Reservoirs are located on or near the
coal lease. Minnesota Reservoir on the Dry Fork of
Minnesota Creek (Dry Fork) is located centrally on the coal
lease area. Beaver Reservoir on the East Fork of Minnesota
Creek (East Fork) is located on the southwestern boundary of
-g-
