The water quality in the adit is appropriate for land application, and has Qol t Q/~an~y~
been approved for such within the permit area (Sorenson, 1996a). Water quality data for ~
the Hazel A adit are presented in Table 1.
As part of the mill closure, the water currently in the Hazel A adit will be pumped to the S ~ ~K "¢ y--
tailings pond evaporation and land application systems until the adit no longer contains /b ~1, ,,,,,~ n~
sufficient water for pumping, and the wffer dam and all Franklin equipment and piping L`- r""'"~
will be removed. Operation and maintenance of the Hazel A edit will then be the
responsibility of the owner, Mr. Mark Steen.
~.,, ~{vo
3.2 Mill Building and Contents u~
All mining and milling equipment will be rinsed and removed from the mill building and lo~-~- , • `
removed from the she. Approximately 100 to 200 toot of grinding and flotation tailings „°~~~ ~~~`-y_'";~
cuaently reside in a thickening tank in the building. These tailings will be tested for acid- ~ - 1,
base potential (ABP) and added to the tailings pond. ~ ~,ay ,,, ~- S ~ ~ ~ ~} ~T ~ (S
Upon removal of all equipment and tailings from the mill building, the building will be iS >L
thoroughly cleaned. All significant dirt, dust and other residues will be removed by a ~,,,}-o
combination of sweeping and washing with clean water. All wash water will be disposed f~~s ~ ~ -
of in the tailings pond. The building will remain on site and in tact. Zoning for P~
industriaVcotttmercial uses will be requested from Boulder County upon completion of the '
reclamation operations. I
3.3 Tailings Pond
The tailings pond will be drained of water by a combination of evaporation and land -
application of the pond water. The existing evaporation and land application systems will
be used at the currently permitted rates until the water level is below the level where water
can be pumped from the pond. (~I ~ ~'
-f I-~I s+S
Approximately 1,500 cubic yards of tailings are presently in the pond which has an -~
estimated capacity of 2,500 cubic yards. The tailings have been tested for ABP, and aze ~~ ~
slightly acid generating. Portland cement or fly ash will be mixed with the tailings ~
(including those transferred from the mill building) to neutralize any potential acid
generation and stabilize the, tailings. The resulting mixture will be confirmation tested for
ABP.

:w.~ehnrluuYedoadoJO la9r
