1996 Annunl Hydro/ogy Report Responses
December 1 /, 1997
Pnge 7
.All of the wells identified by the Division in this point (SOM 45-H-2, SOM
C-76, 96-2-2, 96-27-1, RAV-4b, SOM 23-H-1, and SO.W-1) are under the
baseline monitoring program; therefore, the third sampling analyses does not
apply to these wells. Page 2.04-69, 70 and 71 in MCC's permit explains the
baseline monitoring program. As you will note from the tables provided in the
1996 AHR, MCC complied with this schedule, and in fact, have more than the
three full-suite analyses for many of the wells during the 1996 water year.
Please note that field parameters were collected for these wells as shown on
Tables I-]0, I-18, I-21, I-22, I-26, I-27, and I-29, respectively. The lab did not
complete the analyses of some of the parameters, as specified on MCC's
standazd list of parameters. MCC has had numerous discussions with the lab
and cannot explain why they missed a few parameters on the groundwater sites,
as specified on MCC's s[andazd list of parameters.
•As we discussed and observed during previous site inspections, GB-1 has
been abandoned and since replaced. The well was located on the east side of
LRP. A revision is forthcoming to Division to include the completion
information for the new well in the permit. B-32 is a barren member well and
is clearly not needed in the monitoring program any longer, as MCC will not
mine in the area of this well in the future and will not mine the F-seam. MCC
plans to continue monitoring SOM 38-H-1 and reevaluate it afrer the review of
the 1997 Water Yeaz data.
Based upon the above discussion, MCC would like the Division to reconsider
the issuance of the NOV.
17. Total and dissolved iron were indeed transposed on Table I-3l for SOM 128H.
A revised table is enclosed.
18. A list of maps has been added to the Table of Contents.
19. MCC has addressed the incompleteness letter for MR#208 under sepazate
cover, which was faxed to the Division on December 5, 1997. However, MCC
has specific comments regarding the four points made by the Division.
.The request to provide mine inflow sample results in AHRs was not made by
the Division until December 9, 1996, which is afrer the 1996 Water Year;
therefore, this information was not provided in the 1996 AHR. Mine inflow
sample results will be included in the 1997 AHR.
.Again, this request was made after the 1996 Water Year; therefore, this
information was not included in the 1996 AHR. MCC has provided
