Site mining is anticipated to continue six years beyond when last constructed wetland bench is
completed. On site activst'ses, in addition to mining, include maintaining constructed wetland sites
and monitoring emergent vegetation growth and system stressors.
6.1 Maintenance Activities
Management of these wetland systems involves weed control, eradicating undesirable
hydrophytes, replanting, and minimizing runoff of turbid discharge water into wetland benches.
Trash produced on site will be removed from site and properly disposed of. Woody debris
removed as mining progresses will be buried in backfilled areas. Site fencing will be maintained to
exclude livestock from site during mining and reclamation periods.
Produced water from mining areas will be treated in the Phase I area detention basin for settling
of carried suspended load. Basin containment volume will be controlled by a pipe used to
stabilize water level at same elevation of constructed wetland bench. A Mirafi ]OOX sediment
fence, erected and maintained around Phase A bench sections bordering detention pond
(Appendix B, W-1), will be used to minimize silting of emergent wetland vegetation. Low-
turbidity water removed from upper pond surface will be discharged into river periodically at peak
volume. A flap-gate installed at the end of the pipe will prevent backflow from river.
6.2 Responsible Parties
Responsibility for maintaining mitigation progress at the site is under the discretion of GJ Pipe. If
observations indicate that the transplants are not becoming established necessary steps will need
to be taken. Circumstances that require additional consultation from outside sources will be
contracted through GJ Pipe.
6-1
