..
• application to the Jefferson County Board of Adjustments concerning
its mining operations over the life of the mine.
Asphalt Paving Co. continues to make improvements and to upgrade
the operation. We are committed to providing a quality operation
and a safe work place.
Reclamation continues to be accomplished as per the recommendations
of THK Associates and will continue per the stages included and
submitted with that plan. The crested wheat grasses, along with
blue gamma and rye grasses, are rolled and compacted into the soil
after seeding to insure limited wind loss. On-site reclamation is
being expanded in an ever-widening semicircle as mining is
completed. Reclamation signs have been installed to alert all
incoming visitors that reclamation is an important part of our
activity. Additionally, more signs (litter, speed and trespass)
have been installed.
During this past year, additional reclamation was accomplished. A
little more than three acres along the east facing berm was
reseeded. Inasmuch as the quarry operation has not ceased, the
remaining flat benches have not yet been addressed. Our mining
continues northward. We continue to expose new rock, bench by
bench.
A reclamation bond continues to be provided to the Colorado Mined
• Land Reclamation Board as well as Jefferson County in the monetary
amount defined by the Land Reclamation Board and is consistent with
their normal and accepted schedule of fees.
A public liability and property damage umbrella insurance policy in
the amount of $2 million has been kept in full force. Asphalt
Paving Co. agrees to actively pursue a policy that continually
operates within all applicable rules, regulations and statutes of
the county, state or federal agency having jurisdiction over any
aspect of the operation.
Water spray bars continue to be in operation and are installed at
dust producing points in the crushing operation. During this past
year, even more water hoses and spray bars were installed. Water
trucks continue to spray the stockpiles, the stockpile areas and
the quarry floor as well as those areas which have been
revegetated. Most access roads have been paved eliminating the
need for continuous watering on the quarry access roads. Asphalt
Paving Co. continues to try to be advised of the latest technology
for new methods of dust control. In recognizing our obligations to
the Board, when new technology is available, we will continue to
avail ourselves of it. In the event of extreme wind conditions,
Asphalt Paving Co. continues to shut down its entire crushing
operation.
• <,~,n~~v.,~~ 6
