• recognize the importance of the truck routing requirements,
specifically the truck foreman and scale weigher. With the
improvements to Highway 93, especially in close proximity to our
quarry, the increased traffic load as well as the high speed
traffic has accommodated our trucking very well. Further, with the
Golden Bypass portion of SH93 now open and in use, truck movements
are quieter, safer and less disruptive to the traveling public.
Asphalt Paving Co. continues to monitor our trucking activity as it
relates to Highway 93 very closely. We have benefitted from these
improvements and continue to take advantage of them in maintaining
a controlled, safe operation. Be advised that the average number
of trucks per day (on an annual basis) was 93.
Mining: As previously addressed in the 1985 report, Asphalt Paving
Co. was granted permission for an asphalt plant in the future, to
be located within the boundary provisions of Ralston Quarry. There
have been no circumstances to date which would warrant an immediate
move of an asphalt plant to this location. We continue to operate
at the Clear Creek site and will do so until the situation changes.
The actual quarry operation is still being conducted in accordance
with the recommendations of THK associates. During this past year,
Asphalt Paving Co. has eliminated one lower bench near the quarry
floor and has added three new upper benches. Further, the size of
these benches (depth and length) have been increased to accommodate
• more efficient mining, as well as create a much safer working
environment. Access roads to the expanded upper mining areas (the
new benches) are being kept to a minimum so as to keep any
unnecessary disturbance to a minimum. All stripping from this new
area is being pushed to the west (back side of the dike) and is
hidden from the east facing SH93 view corridor. The 20' berm on
the east was previously reseeded and improved. The original
purpose of the berm remains the same, to screen the quarry
operations from high visibility from populated areas. Shale
material was hauled and placed as an extension of the 20' berm area
in 1986. This screening berm progression has been top soiled and
seeded.
The floor of the quarry continues to be graded and maintained at
all times so that runoff drainage is directed toward the southwest
corner of the site where a detention pond gathers the runoff. The
previously constructed detention storage ponds are in daily use for
recycling dust suppression water and collection of fine particle
settlement. The ponds are at an average depth greater than the 4'
specified and are provided with proper outlets. These ponds
continue to be cleaned during the winter and contents incorporated
into the topsoil and used for revegetation purposes.
The mining will continue as per the stages originally submitted and
is in compliance with the THK Associates and Asphalt Paving Co.
n
