November 15, 1995
1995 AHR Adequacy Response
Basin Resources
`! 4. Zero values in the historic summary for PAW-5 and PAW-6 have been reviewed and
~`~ modified when appropriate on A-123 and A-127.
5. PAW-7 is located below Pond 005 at Golden Eagle, at leas[ 300 feet from the river. The
~~\~ .~ nominal quantity of water in this well is anaerobic and the well has a low recharge rate.
Bailing stirred up sediment. It was not possible to acquire a sample from fresh recharge
~~ at this site. The statement "bailed out contaminated" is misleading.
" ~~~ 6. May sampling visits for the bedrock wellsowere n~performed due to a combination of
~~ problems; pumps were being set in the deep wells and the generator was not working
~ n~ correctly. The two New Elk mine workings sites, NEW-2 and NEW-4, did not get
c,\~r, sampled due to the sampling difficulties associated with the bedrock wells.
~`''UU ~ ,~„3 s
7. The sampling of LA-221 was performed in a manner inconsistent with the hydrologic
A •`~~ monitoring plan, due to an oversight. In addition, the field sampling summaries, to which
\a U~ - we have access, show the variation in water level values between 224 feet and 324 feet for
~(~' the 1995 data. The 1994 data summarized for LA-264 and LA-221 is reported the same
as you observed. Sampling of LA-264 and LA-221 was re-initiated in 1994. These old
monitoring sites were not clearly marked and the sampler got contused when recording the
data.
o ~ ~~~~ We suspect that the elevated December depth to water of 27 feet at LA-264 came about
~ because the M-Scope gave an erroneous reading due to water inside the casing.
\k ~t 9. Basin was not able to collect a quarterly sample at NM-20 in May due to problems with
~~ pump installation and generator difficulties as noted in question 6. NM-20 is an alkaline
/n~ , ~,J? sodium carbonate water, and has been very alkaline since it was constructed. The June
U~ 11 V`^'" depth-to-water of 400 feet appears to be an anomaly, but the depth was confirmed with the
Q ~'~+ field notes for the site.
10. TH-201 was blocked at 22'. However the obstruction Iras been cleared and site has been
Q1 ~ ,~ dry.
~ ~I_ o~~
