November 15, 1995
1995 AHR Adequacy Response
Basin Resources
page 2 of 4
Monitoring FrequencX
Groundwater
I/ 1
2.
~~~~s
~,~ Y~"_
// C3,
l~ v
1
e
CCAW-1 was not sampled in May and August 1995. Please note that the minimum
sampling requirement for this site is quarterly monitoring of field parameters.
The field sampling summary provided by the mine identified a 17.7-foot depth to water
in February. While this depth is significantly greater than historic data collected at the site
and flows in the Middle Fork of the Purgatoire were moderate and seasonal, Basin is not
in a position to modify the data.
The historic summary of the 1992 data at PAW-1 has been modified following a review
of the 1992 AHR.
PAW-3 is located immediately adjacent to the Purgatoire River alluvium just northeast of
the prep plant at New Elk. The Purgatoire River alluvium is an unconfined aquifer. A
review of data from the last three years suggests that the depth to water is inversely related
to tows in the Purgatoire; i.e., when the water level is low, the depth to water is high.
It is not outside the realm of possibilities that a site located so close to the river would
show a Fluctuation of five feet.
~~
~~
~J`~ Date
~\ \,~'
~ \~.IIINNN 5/93
I/'~ 9/93
C .~`~ 11 /93
2/94
5/94
9/94
11/94
2/95
5/95
9/95
Depth to Water at PAW-3
(feet)
16.34
17
17.25
17.35
l0
10.9
12.5
8.2
11.8
7.3
3 ap .
