speedwell and hound's tongue (Gvnoglossum officinale) were also important. Native annual <br />• <br />and biennial (orbs averaged 1.4 percent of total vegetation cover. Native perennial forbs <br />~ averaged 4.2 percent of total vegetation cover. Groundsmoke was this life form's major <br />cover contributor. Native shrubs (mostly big sagebrush and rubber rabbitbrush, <br />i C~sothamnus nauseousus) accounted for 0.8 percent of total vegetation cover. <br />I Total vegetation cover averaged 50.5 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock <br />i cover averaged 2.1, 27.2, 19.3, and 0.9 percent, respectively. Species density averaged <br />26.9 individuals 100 sq. m. <br />I <br />i <br />Herbaceous Production (Table 8) <br />Alfalfa averaged 217.7 pounds of herbaceous production per acre. All other species <br />averaged 1,548.8 pounds per acre. Total herbaceous production averaged 1,764.8 pounds <br />per acre. <br />Shrub Density (Table 9) <br />Native shrubs, the only woody life form observed in this unit, averaged 376.4 individuals <br />per acre. 'Rubber rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus) and big sagebrush accounted for <br />most of these. Mountain snowberry was also important. Saskatoon serviceberry, Douglas <br />rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus), and silver sagebrush (Seriohidium canum) <br />were minor contributors. <br />Wadge Pasture (Photographs 13 through 15) <br />Cover (Table 10) <br />Introduced perennial forb was the dominant life form in this unit with !i2.7 percent of total <br />i vegetation cover. Atfalia accounted for most of this average but titer milkvetch was also <br />important. Native perennial forbs averaged 1.6 percent of total vegetation cover. <br />~ Introduced annual and biennial forbs averaged 3.7 percent of total vegetation cover. <br />Twolobe speedwell and salsify accounted (or most of this average.
