• total vegetation cover. Intermediate wheatgrass was this life Torm's major cover <br />contributor. Smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis) and orchardgrass were also important. <br />Total vegetation cover averaged 44.1 percent. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock <br />cover averaged 2.0, 35.6, 16.2, and 2.1 percent, respectively. Species density averaged <br />35.4 species per 100 sq. m. <br />Herbaceous Production (Table 5) <br />Alfalfa averaged 98.1 pounds of herbaceous production per acre. All other species averaged <br />1,004.6 pounds per acre. Total herbaceous production averaged 1,102.7 pounds per acre. <br />Shrub Density (Table 6) <br />Native shrub, the only woody life form observed in this unit, averaged 85.0 individuals per <br />acre. Big sagebrush accounted for more than half of these. Mountain snowberry was also <br />important. Chokecherry (Padus virginiana ssp. melanocaroa), Saskatoon serviceberry <br />(Amelanchier alnifolia), and bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata) were minor contributors. <br />• PECOCO Pasture (Photographs 9 through 12) <br />Cover (Table 7) <br />Introduced perennial cool season grass was the dominant life form in this unit with 28.7 <br />percent of total vegetation cover. Intermediate wheatgrass accounted for most of this <br />average. Smooth brome and orchardgrass were also important. Native perennial cool <br />season grasses averaged 16.2 percent of total vegetation cover. Western wheatgrass <br />(Pascogyrum smithii) was this life form's major cover contributor. Thickspike <br />wheatgrass (Elymus Ianceolatus fm. dasystachy~) was also important. Introduced annual <br />grasses averaged 10.7 percent of total vegetation cover. Japanese brome accounted for most <br />of this average but cheatgrass was also important. <br />Introduced perennial forb averaged 25.9 percent of total vegetation cover. Alfalfa accounted <br />for most of this but cicer milkvetch was also important. Canada thistle was a minor <br />contributor. Introduced annual and biennial fortis averaged 12.1 percent of total vegetation <br />cover. Yellow sweetclover was this life form's major cover contributor. Twolobe <br /> <br />
