• is isolated from the surface and is not influenced by annual <br />recharge fluctuations. <br />Water levels in BH-70, however, appear to follow a different trend. <br />This well is near a location previously mined. Water level <br />fluctuations during the period of monitoring are on the order of <br />100 feet and are considerably greater than observed elsewhere. It <br />is possible that the declines in water level are related to past <br />mining although the substantial recovery during 1986-1987 is <br />difficult to explain. Water level measurements are taken using a <br />bubbler pressure reading so that measurement errors due to leaks in <br />the line or partial obstructions could result in artificial <br />fluctuations. Water level recoveries during 1991 are more readily <br />• explained since mining has ceased in that area. Other than the <br />fluctuations observed in Well BH-70 that might have occurred from <br />mining adjacent to this well, no other impacts related to mining <br />have been observed in bedrock wells. <br /> <br />17 <br />
