_ DISCHARGE STATIONS
•
There are six NPDES discharge points on the property. In addition
there are two surface water stations located immediately upstream
and downstream of the Orchard Valley West Mine Portal. The data
from these two in-stream stations do not indicate any significant
increase in the concentrations of suspended solids or dissolved
solids.
NPDES discharge NP001 is the discharge from the wastewater
treatment plant which in turn flows through Pond 4 where it becomes
part of the discharge measured at NP002. Although waste water
discharges occurred during 1991, this discharge was lost as
evaporation or seepage. No discharge was reported at NP002 during
• 1991. No discharge was reported at stations NP004 and NP005
located at the coal storage and load out area near the North Fork
of the Gunnison River. Occasional discharge was measured at NP006
located at the west portal area. Discharge limits were met at this
location. Flows were less than 0.003 cfs and TDS levels ranged
from 484 to 634 mg/1.
There was also no discharge in 1991 from station NP003 located at
the temporary coal stockpile location. The water quality data for
the stations is summarized in Table 104 through 108. When
discharge does occur from these points, it has little impact on the
surface water quality because of the infrequent occurrence of
discharge and its low flow and effluent limitation requirements.
18
