• BEDROCK WELLS
Presently 13 bedrock wells are monitored. Eight shallow wells (B-1
through B-8) are located on the bench area at the Orchard Valley
mine portal and are completed in the Mancos Shale and Mesaverde
Coal Member. Four deep bedrock wells are completed in the
Mesaverde Coal Member and the one deep bedrock well is completed in
the Mesaverde Sandstone.
Well B-3 has been bridged and water level measurements have not
been possible since 1988. Only two of the remaining seven shallow
wells consistently have water in them. Plots of the water level
data for these two wells and Well B-3 are presented in Figures 47
• through 49. The water levels in wells B-4 and B-7 show
fluctuations similar to that observed in other wells. Water levels
have declined since 1987 but have stabilized or recovered slightly
in 1991. The water quality data for well B-7 (Node 22) is
summarized in Tables 102 and 103 and the conductivity data is
plotted in Figure 49. water quality in well B-7 has remained
fairly consistent showing no change resulting from mining activity.
Water level data for four of the deep bedrock wells is presented in
Figures 50 through 53. Well GR77 has been bridged since 1987 so
that water level monitoring can no longer be conducted at this
well. The water level trends in wells BH-60 and BH-65 are atypical
in that no decline in water levels appear as a result of the lower
. precipitation years from 1988 through 1990. This indicates that
water in the Mesaverde Coal member in the vicinity of these wells
16
