1995 Annual Hydrologic Report
• Page 8
days per week were used. Usage on the surface roads was approximately 12,000 gallons
of water per day, 6 days per week, 75% of the year. Water for the surface roads was
taken from an approved point of diversion in the Highline canal.
A summary of the estimated consumptive use of water is as follows:
Total Gallons/ Gallons/
Source Gallons raw ton clean ton
Domestic
Surface Facilities 1,364,000 1.9 2.7
Preparation Plant 4,849,000 6.8 9.7
Mine
Mining 5,050,000 7.1 10.1
Preparation Plant 3,851,000 5.4 7.7
Underground Roads 1,123,000 1.6 2.2
Highline Canal
Surface Roads 2,808.000 3_9 5.6
•
TOTAL 19,045,000 26.6 38.0
Impacts
The total dissolved solids for the mine discharges calculated with monthly TDS and
monthly flow for the year come out to be 34.9 tons for 001, 851.9 tons for 002 and
306.8 tons for 004. This total of 1193 tons represent a 23% decrease over the 1994
TDS discharge and a 33% decrease over the 1993 discharge. The corresponding flow
discharge for 1995 were 13% below the 1994 discharge and 2% above the 1993
discharge. The 1995 TDS discharge represent .066% of the 1.810 million tons
calculated to be carried by the River. Again for 1996 the discharge of TDS is expected
to decrease slightly from the Roadside South Portal and increase slightly from the
Roadside North Portal. Long term discharge from the Roadside North will cease upon
completion of mining. At the Roadside South, water is expected to continue to discharge
from 002 beyond closure and flow is expected to increase by the amount previously
discharged from outfa11001 and the amount previously used for mining and processing.
• There was no detectable effect of mining on flows in Cottonwood and Rapid Creeks.
Mining projections in the Roadside South have changed to mining east toward Rapid
