' Tailings Pond No• •
Sunnyside Mine
' Silverton, Colorado
Project No. 3120K114
' o Laboratory testing of subsurface materials; and
' o Geotechnical engineering analyses.
' Nine borings were drilled at the tailings pond during the field
exploration of the site, to depths of 49.5 to 120.5 feet at the
' approximate locations shown on the site plan. During
exploration, subsoils were visually examined and sampled at
' selected intervals. Soil sampling consisted of standard
penetration, Dames and Moore ring samples, shelby tubes and
bulk samples. Each test boring was cased with field slotted 2-
' inch PVC pipe for groundwater measurements.
' The following laboratory tests were performed on selected soil
samples retrieved during the drilling operations:
' o Water content
o Dry density
' o Consolidation
o Triaxial shear
' o Direct Shear
o Gradation
' o Plasticity Index
o Specific Gravity
Test results were used in the evaluation of slope stability and
to formulate the recommendations contained in this report.
INTERPRETATION OF SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
' Exploration-Tailinos Pond: As presented on Logs of Borings,
' surface and subsoils in test borings 1, 2, and 4 to the: full
depth of exploration of 49.5 to 81 feet were found to lie sand
' tailings of loose to medium density and none to low
plasticity.
' -3-
