' Tailings Pond N • •
Sunnyside Mine
' Silverton, Colorado
Project No. 3120K114
' Surface soils to depths of 7 to 46 feet in test borings 4, and
5 through 9 were found to be sand tailings of loose to medium
' density and none to low plasticity. The near surface materials
in test borings 3, and 5 through 9 to depths of 9 to 116 feet
' were found to be sandy or clayey silt (slimes) of soft to firm
consistency and low to medium plasticity. Scattered lenses, or
' interfingered sections of sand tailings were encountered in the
slime fraction. The material encountered above the natural
soils in test borings 3, and 5 through 8 consist of sand.
' Natural soils underlying the tailings encountered in the
borings, and extending to the full depth of exploration
consisted of sandy clays, and/or gravel and cobbles.
Groundwater: During this investigation, groundwater was
' encountered in test borings 5, 6, 8 and 9. Perforated PVC open
well piezometers we re placed in all test borings to monitor the
' groundwater levels. Groundwater el evations, and the depth of
the groundwater in the piezometers as measured on August 17,
' 1990 are presented in the following table:
' Piezometer Elevation Depth.
