The seed mixtures used on these areas were as follows:
SUPPLEMENTAL SEEDINGS, DRAINAGE CHANNEL, PARRING AREA:
SPECIES
INTERMEDIATE WHEATGRASS
PUBESCENT WHEATGRASS
SLENDER WHEATGRASS
RUSSIAN WILDRYE
YELLOW SWEETCLOVER
RATE ~ PLS/ACRE = BROADCAST)
9
9
3
6
1
23
TOPSOIL STOCKPILE:
SPECIES
INTERMEDIATE WHEATGRASS
PUBESCENT WHEATGRASS
YELLOW SWEETCLOVER
RATE ,S# PLS/ACRE _ BROADCAST
15
16
2
3'3
RULE 2.41 5 THE TYPE AND APPROXIMATE QUANTITY OF FERTILIZERS, ORGANIC
MATERIAL, OR SOIL CONDITIONERS USED AND LOCATION OF USE.
No fertilizers or soil amendments were used in association with the
plantings for this year.
RULE 2.41 6 AN APPRAISAL OF THE SUCCESS OF RECLAMATION EFFORTS, AND
IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF ANY EFFORTS, A SHORT NARRATIVE ON THE
SUSPECTED OR DETERMINED CAUSE OF SUCH FAILURE.
The old Peter Riewit Stockpile area and the Tract WDT area have shown
that success with the seed mixtures we have used and will continue using is
quite good where soil is limited or absent and limestone waste not present.
A similar mixture was used on the access road sides with similar success,
even though the slope is very steep. But in the latter case, the north
aspect certainly has contributed to the success.
The shop slope has shown that sweetclover is important to establishing
a quick cover and helping the grasses to become established. It also shows
that slope stabilization is critical to the success of any reclamation
project. The instability which has developed in the eastern quarter of
this slope has been a severe aggravation and appears to be alleviated
through the construction of a support berm at the base of the slope.
Page 3 of 4 1988 PIKEVIEW QUARRY ANNUAL REPORT
