..~~_ • ~
The limestone waste pile has shown fair to good growth over most of
the face, even though the slope is close to the angle of repose. In a few
areas, the soil sloughed off the slope and this will need to be treated
somewhat differently in the future. However, it is apparent that at least
a temporary revegetation of fair to good cover can be established on this
steep slope, especially where the aspect is north to northeasterly.
All in all, nearly all of the revegetation projects to date have met
with at least fair success, and most with an outs[anding success. All of
the areas reclaimed to date, however, have been associated with
disturbances which do not include the quarry face itself. That will be
quite a different situation which will need to be approached in the future.
RULE 2.41 7 : ESTIMATES OF THE LOCATION AND NUMBER OF ACRES TO BE
AFFECTED IN THE COMING YEAR.
The number of acres to be affected in the next year cannot be
accurately determined as the aggregate market is extremely unstable. The
area delineated on the annual report map projects the extension of the
current mining area to include this area. Of course, as the quarry mining
area expands southward, land behind is completed with mining. Therefore
the amount of acreage actually involved in mining during any particular
year remains at a fairly constant level of between 8 and 16 acres. The
actual amount depends largely upon the configuration of the area where
mining is to occur. Certain configurations determined by the rock type,
dip, and relationship to other areas greatly determines how much land is
needed.
MAP: Attached is a map prepared on the newly acquired and installed
computer mapping system. All future annual report maps will be prepared on
these types of maps. The system permits not only 2-dimensional mapping to
great accuracy and precise scaling, but also permits 3-dimensional modeling
of topography which will be useful in designing reclamation and mining
plans for areas exhibiting rough topography.
Page 4 of 4 1988 PIKEVIEW QUARRY ANNUAL REPORT
