1986 RECLAMATION AREA
• The 1986 reclamation azea encompasses approximately 47 acres of reclaimed pit in the
central area of the Keenesburg Mine permit azea. The 1986 reclamation azea is composed
of three pazcels (Areas 4, 12, and 20) sepazated by north-south haul road corridors (Areas
3 and 19). The azea is nearly flat with a gentle slope (<1°) to the north and east.
Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1986. Replaced
soils were sandy in texture.
Calamovilfa longifolia dominated the 1986 reclamation azeas this season. Andropogon
hallii was present and flowering but not as robust as in prior yeazs. Bouteloua gracilis
was present and appeared to be in healthy condition. Cool season graminoid and forb
species were largely lacking. Widely scattered individuals of Yucca glauca (yucca) were
encountered. Area 4 has two distinct vegetation types. The topographically elevated area
at the north end of the pazcel is dominated by Calamovilfa longifolia, Andropogon hallii
and Schizachyrium scoparium. In the lower area, at the south end of this pazcel, Bromus
marginatus usually dominates, however this season the warm season grasses Panicum
virgatum, Schizachyrium scoparium, and Andropogon hallii were dominant. Very few
weedy species were observed. Total vegetation cover was estimated at 35 percent. Total
herbaceous production was estimated at 100 g/m2 (890 ]b/ac). No evidence of pests or
diseases was identified in any of the 1986 reclamation area pazcels.
1987 RECLAMATION AREA
• The 1987 reclamation azea encompasses approximately 48 acres of reclaimed pit and
adjacent areas in the south central azea of the Keenesburg Mine permit azea. The 1987
reclamation area is composed of two parcels (Areas 1 I and 17) separated by a north-south
haul road corridor and two narrow reclamation parcels (Areas 9, 10, and 16). The entire
1987 reclamation azea is nearly flat with a gentle slope (<1°) to the south and east.
Reclamation and subsequent revegetation within this area took place in 1987. Replaced
soils were generally sandy in texture.
The 1987 reclamation azeas were dominated by Calamovilfa longifolia. Artemisia
filifolia has become established within the south side of Area 18 from the undisturbed
range to the south. An azea immediately adjacent to the undisturbed range on the south is
significantly drier and contains Yucca glauca. Vegetation cover was estimated at 30-35
percent. Overall herbaceous production in this azea was estimated to be 100 glm2 (890
lb/ac). No evidence of pests or diseases was identified in this area.
1999 RECLAMATION AREAS
Two areas were seeded to the permanent revegetation seed mix in 1999. The first area
encompasses the remaining A pit area and haul road access (Area 9). The second area
comprises 2.6 acres at the south end of the topsand piles (Area 5). Area 9 is visually
dominated by Kochia scoparia and a number of perennial grass clumps. Area 5 also
Coors Energy Comnary Page i3
2002 Revegetation Monitoring Report
